Overview

Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Accounting Specialist maintains the financial records of the school district, processes Accounts Receivables, receipts income, and provides monthly and annual financial reports in compliance with state and district accounting standards. This position does not supervise other employees.

This is a full time, year-round position.  Hood River County School District provides a comprehensive benefits package, including health/dental/vision insurance, vacation, sick leave and pays both the employer and employee portion into the State retirement system, upon eligibility.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of two years of prior, job-related experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to effectively use MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint and equivalent Google suite of programs and office equipment as required by the position.
  • Confidentiality, diplomacy, discretion and independent judgment are required to meet the expectations of the position.

Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

  • Skills  to operate standard office equipment including use of computer applications, use of English in both written and verbal form and perform basic arithmetic calculations
  • Knowledge of appropriate English language usage in both written and verbal forms, including use of correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and applicable federal, state and local laws and administrative rules, codes and regulations, including but not limited to public contract rules, local budget law and federal and state grant administrative and financial requirements.
  • Abilities to work independently and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Significant physical abilities include prolonged sitting/standing; repetitive reaching/handling; occasional lifting, pushing and pulling loads of up to 30 pounds; frequent bending; talking/hearing conversations, near visual acuity/visual accommodation.
  • Ability to design and create clear, concise and accurate reports from the District’s financial system to use for financial analysis and reporting.
